First time visitors will enjoy the scenic and cultural diversity of Northeastern Arizona. Navajo County covers over six million acres and is the fourth largest county in the state. The county borders extend north through the Navajo and Hopi reservations to the Utah state line, south to the White Mountains, the Apache Reservation and along the Mogollon Rim.

In the north, semi arid, high plateau grassland reveals rugged desert beauty. In contrast, the southern end is heavily wooded with juniper, pinion, and ponderosa pine. The Indian Reservations in Navajo County include the world renowned scenic Monument Valley, Historical Fort Apache and the Ancient Hopi Villages.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Camping is available at Cholla Lake and Show Low Lake Parks for a minimal fee. Our County Park Rangers are present year round. Regular park hours are from dawn to dark. Quiet time begins at 10:00 pm at the campgrounds.

Navajo County offers a variety of recreational settings and activities for Northeastern Arizona. The parks surround lakes and provide numerous opportunities for water-based recreation. Facilities have been developed with funds and cooperation from the Navajo County Board of Supervisors, the Arizona State Lake Improvement Fund and the Arizona Heritage Fund, private corporations and volunteers. The operation, development, maintainance and management of the parks is the responsability of the Navajo County Parks and Recreation Department and Commission.
