SEE THE WILD WEST AT ITS VERY BEST.
{short description of image} The legends still live. Be a part of them! Less than one hundred years ago, there were no fences within 300 miles of Springerville. This once remote area was a haven for the Clantons, the Smith Gang, Butch Cassidy, and others. Lawlessness prevailed. Cowboys of the huge "24" and "Hashknife" outfits rode in our mountains and Apache bands roamed freely.

THE HIGHLAND VALLEYS OF THE WHITE MOUNTAINS.
This is truly John Wayne country. Years after the pioneers tamed the land, the "Duke" himself owned a Cattle Ranch and rode the range here. Visitors can talk with residents today who can personally recall history or family (one generation back), that lived in those wild times. Today, this very recent pioneer heritage is much in evidence. Five small towns in the area all nestle in beautiful, historic highland valleys each with its own distinct personality.
Alpine, the "Alps of Arizona" in Bush Valley; tiny Nutrioso whose name means "Beaver Bear", Springerville and Eagar share "Round Valley" protected at the foot of the mountains, and beautiful "Greer Valley" with its Log Lodges and trio of lakes. Proud, independent descendants of Mexican settlers, Mormon Pioneers, European Immigrants, and White Mountain Apaches join together in offering Old-time Western Hospitality.
Step back in time and feel the charm of a simpler, nicer America. You won't find hype or commercialization here. This remaining bit of the true west is inhabited by hard working, family oriented folks in touch with and appreciative of the land. Many still ranch and farm, have cattle drives, roping's, and eat their meals from a Chuck Wagon. Now that's the real thing!
A special atmosphere found only in small towns enhances the area rodeo's, parades, and festivals. Newcomers instantly feel at home. Join right in! Take a part of this special place with you to keep in your heart forever!
