of the Santa Catalina Mountains in Coronado National Forest near Catalina State
Park in Tucson. NORTH TAYLOR (117 acres, 95%
contained) is burning on Mt. Graham in Coronado National Forest. 05-25-06
: New Mexico BRILLIANT 2 (310 acres, 100%
contained) is 9 miles W of Raton in New Mexico State Forestry's Cimarron
District. ADOBE (9,567 acres; 40% contained) is
28 miles SE of Animas in New Mexico State Forestry's Socorro District but no
structures are threatened. TAYLOR (510 acres)
is burning in Gila National Forest 12 miles S of the Beaverhead Work Center.
TAYLOR is lightning-caused and is being managed under the "wildland fire use"
philosophy to benefit resources in the area. 05-24-06 : Arizona
NORTH TAYLOR (117 acres, 90% contained) is burning
on Mt. Graham in Coronado National Forest. Larry Raley's Eastern Arizona Type 2
Incident Management Team is assigned. The fire is 19 miles SW of Safford in

Wagon Mound in New Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District. GARLEY (115 acres, 100% contained) is burning on Mt.
Taylor in Cibola National Forest and on Laguna Pueblo. CAPULIN (125 acres, 100% contained) is burning in
Bandelier National Monument about 23 miles west of Santa Fe. ENCINO (1,500 acres; 100% contained) is in Cibola
National Forest 10 miles N of Corona. The fire was wind-driven and no spread is
expected. CABRA (600 acres, 100% contained) is
50 miles NW of Tucumcari in New Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District. All

2 (310 acres, 60% contained) is 9 miles W of Raton in New Mexico State
Forestry's Cimarron District. ADOBE (7,567
acres; 40% contained) is 28 miles SE of Animas in New Mexico State Forestry's
Socorro District but no structures are threatened. The fire is burning in Upper
Bear Creek and Cherry Creek, and backing down into Indian Creek and all
drainages leading to higher terrain on Animas Mountain. CERRO (10,000 A., 70% contained) is 4 miles N of Ojo
Feliz, NM, in New Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District. LEVI (9,250 acres, 100% contained) is 2 miles NW of
Wagon Mound in New Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District. All resources
have been released. GARLEY (115 acres, 100%
contained) is burning on Mt. Taylor in Cibola National Forest and on Laguna
Pueblo. CAPULIN (125 acres, 100% contained) is
burning in Bandelier National Monument about 23 miles west of Santa Fe.
ENCINO (1,500 acres; 100% contained) is in
Cibola National Forest 10 miles N of Corona. CABRA (600 acres, 100% contained) is 50 miles NW of
Tucumcari in New Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District. New Mexico
State Forestry reports 6 fires burning in its Capitan District that are each
100% contained. They include JET (10,000 A.) 20
miles NW of Elida, WOODY (9,000 A.) 15 miles NW of
Elida, PEP 2 (8,000 A.) 1 mile SW of Pep,
KINSOLVING (1,900 A.) 3 miles S of Crossroads,
HIGHWAY 128 #1 (1,100 A.) 28 miles NW of Jal,
JACKSON DRAW (1,040 A.) 10 miles NE of Fort
Sumner, and KIZER #10 (720 A.) 6 miles E of

TAYLOR (117 acres, 35% contained) is burning on Mt. Graham in Coronado
National Forest. Larry Raley's Eastern Arizona Type 2 Incident Management Team
is assigned. The fire is 19 miles SW of Safford in steep, rocky, inaccessible
terrain. No structures are threatened. ROMERO
(650 acres) was reported Sunday afternoon burning on the west end of the Santa
Catalina Mountains in Coronado National Forest near Catalina State Park in
Tucson. Dan Oltrogge's Southwest Area Type 1 Incident Management Team has been
ordered. LOST (626 acres, 60% contained) is
burning in remote country near Peach Springs. Type 3 IC Mayer is assigned, also
2 Type 2 crews, 1 helicopter, 2 engines, 3 water tenders, 9 overhead, 58 total
personnel. PURCELL (120 acres, 100% contained)
is 9 miles NW of Heber in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Crews continue
patrolling the fireline and mopping up hot spots within the fire's interior.

BRILLIANT 2 (250 acres, 0% contained) is 9 miles W
of Raton in New Mexico State Forestry's Cimarron District. The fire threatens
area powerlines and the town of Raton. Resources assigned include dozers, state
and local engines, and aerial support. IC Neathammer is assigned, also 1
helicopter, 9 engines, 3 dozers, 3 water tenders, 9 overhead, 45 total
personnel. LEVI (4,000 acres, 0% contained) is
2 miles NW of Wagon Mound in New Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District.
Engines are providing structure protection in the area. Levi Chavez is Type 3

burning on Mt. Taylor in Cibola National Forest and on Laguna Pueblo. Bob

fire. RABBIT (1,000 acres; 100% contained),
which is lightning-caused and burning in Kiowa/Rita Blanca National Grasslands
20 miles N of Clayton. Resources assigned to RABBIT include 5 engines, 1 dozer,
2 overhead, 28 total personnel. CAPULIN (50-60
acres) is burning in Bandelier National Monument about 23 miles west of Santa
Fe. CABRA (300 acres, 0% contained) is 50

PURCELL (120 acres, 100% contained) was reported
Thursday afternoon 30 miles SW of Winslow and 9 miles NW of Heber in
Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Crews continue mopping up hot spots within
the fire's interior and holding the fireline. Expected winds did not arrive.

Mexico State Forestry's Cimarron District. The fire threatens area powerlines
and the town of Raton. Resources assigned include dozers, state and local
engines, and aerial support. LEVI (4,000 acres,
0% contained) is 2 miles NW of Wagon Mound in New Mexico State Forestry's Las
Vegas District. Lightning sparked this fire, which led to temporary closure of
Hwy. 120 yesterday. Smoke has also drifted across I-25. Engines are providing
structure protection in the area. Levi Chavez is Type 3 IC on the fire, also 1
Type 2 crew, 1 helicopter, 16 engines, 2 dozers, 3 water tenders, 6 overhead,
89 total personnel. ADOBE (3,500 acres; 50%
contained) is burning 28 miles SE of Animas in New Mexico State Forestry's
Socorro District but no structures are threatened. The fire was
lightning-caused. Resources assigned: 1 engine, 3 total personnel. GARLEY (200+ acres) is burning on Mt. Taylor in Cibola
National Forest. Bob Lineback's New Mexico Type 2 Incident Management Team will
assume command of GARLEY this evening. A hunting lodge on tribal lands and
microwave relay towers face potential threat. CAPULIN (50-60 acres) is burning in Bandelier National
Monument about 23 miles west of Santa Fe. The fire is burning mostly in
pinon-juniper and grass. Resources assigned: 2 Type 1 crews, 1 heavy air
tanker, 1 single-engine air tanker, Bandelier fire personnel. 05-19-06 :
Arizona PURCELL (100 acres, 0% contained) was
reported Thursday afternoon 30 miles SW of Winslow and 9 miles NW of Heber in
Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Resources assigned: 2 Type 1 crews, 1 Type
2 crew, 6 engines, 3 dozers, 1 water tender, 100 total personnel 05-19-06
: New Mexico. CENTENNIAL (1,950 acres; 100%
contained) is 3 miles east of Orogrande in the Bureau of Land Management's Las
Cruces District. The fire was contained Thursday. 2 firefighters will patrol
the line for the next several days. Two fires are burning in southeastern
New Mexico on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
EPPERS (1,400 acres) is 25 miles NW of Roswell and
100% contained. Nathan Curnutt is Incident Commander (IC) assigned, also 4
engines, 2 water tenders, 1 overhead 13 total personnel. A second fire,
PIPELINE, is 7,000 acres and burning 32 miles NNE
of Capitan. Thunderstorms are predicted for the area today. No structures are
threatened. Jeff Hopf is IC assigned, along with 10 engines, 3 water tenders,
30 total personnel. ADOBE (2,000 acres) is
burning in the Las Cruces District of the Bureau of Land Management. No
structures are threatened. Major burnout operations were planned today to keep
ADOBE out of the Animas Mountains. SEVEN (200
acres) is burning in Gila National Forest 2 miles NE of Negrito Work Center. IC
Yero is assigned, also 1 Type 1 crew and 4 engines, 42 total

human-caused and spread quickly, thanks to 40-mile-per-hour wind

New Mexico MARCIAL (4,819 acres; 100%
contained) is 10 miles SW of San Antonio in New Mexico State Forestry's Socorro
District. Firefighters continue mopping up where needed along with patrolling
the fireline. Chris Wilcox is Type 3 Incident Commander assigned, along with 7
engines, 1 dozer, 11 overhead, 30 total personnel. SHIPROCK #5 (383 acres, 100% contained) burned along the
San Juan River in Shiprock, NM. The fire was human-caused. Crews continue
patrolling the line and mopping up. Type 3 Incident Commander Willetto is
assigned, also 1 Type 1 crew, 1 engine, 3 overhead, 24 total

(5,275 acres; 70% contained) is 10 miles SW of San Antonio in New Mexico State
Forestry's Socorro District. The fire is burning on private land near the
historic town of San Marcial, which was destroyed in a 1931 flood. No
structures are immediately threatened. Firefighters continue mopping up and

personnel. SHIPROCK #5 (383 acres, 80%
contained) is burning along the San Juan River in Shiprock, NM. The fire was
human-caused and reported Thursday morning burning in grass, brush, salt cedar,
and cottonwood. Crews continue patrolling the line and mopping up. Type 3

MESA (225 acres, 100% contained) lies in Coronado National Forest 7
miles south of Arivaca and was contained Wednesday night. The fire is
human-caused and burned in grass, shrubs, and mesquite. Resources assigned: 1
Type 1 crew, 1 Type 2 crew. 05-05-06 : New Mexico
MARCIAL (3,000 acres) is 17 miles south of San
Antonio in New Mexico State Forestry's Socorro District. The fire is burning on
private land near the historic town of San Marcial, which was destroyed in a

Arizona SAND (1,280 acres; 100% contained) is
burning in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests 15-20 miles west of Heber. Crews
continue patrolling the line and rehabilitating constructed fireline. Some

burning in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests 15-20 miles west of Heber and off
of Forest Road 213. The fire is burning in West Chevelon Canyon. Crews continue
patrolling the line and rehabilitating constructed fireline. Larry Humphrey is

15-20 miles west of Heber and off of Forest Road 213. The fire is burning in
rough, steep, rocky terrain in West Chevelon Canyon. No structures are
threatened. Cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews continue building
line, patrolling the line, and mopping up. Some minimal fire spread is possible
along the northeast edge of the fire. Larry Humphrey has taken over as Type 3
Incident Commander assigned. Other resources include 4 Type 1 crews, 3 Type 2
crews, 2 helicopters, 4 engines, 2 dozers, 2 water tenders, 28 overhead, 180
total personnel 04-26-06 : New Mexico GORDON (500 acres, 80% contained) is burning in New
Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District near Quay. GORDON was
lightning-caused and started Sunday night. This grass fire was pushed along
Monday by wind gusts up to 30 m.p.h. The San Jon Volunteer Fire Department
engine remains on site to mop up. Resources assigned: Type 3 Incident Commander
Mike Cherry, 18 engines, 40 total personnel, including San Jon and Bard-Endee
Volunteer Fire Departments, Conservancy #1 and #3, Quay #4, and Conchas and
Tucumcari Fire Departments. 04-25-06 : Arizona SAND (1,220 acres; 60% contained) is burning in
Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests 15-20 miles west of Heber and off of Forest
Road 213. The fire is burning in rough, steep, rocky terrain in West Chevelon
Canyon. No structures are threatened. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Crews continue building line, mopping up, and constructing fireline. Some
minimal fire spread is possibele along the northeast edge of the fire. Dave

total personnel. 04-25-06 : New Mexico GORDON (500 acres, 80% contained) is burning in New
Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District near Quay. GORDON was
lightning-caused and started Sunday night. This grass fire was pushed along
Monday by wind gusts up to 30 m.p.h. The San Jon Volunteer Fire Department

structures are threatened. Cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews will
continue to flank the fire by building line on its west and east sides. Jeff

total personnel. 04-24-06 : New Mexico No new large
fires. 04-22-06 : Arizona SANDS (175
acres) is burning in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests 15-20 miles west of
Heber and off of Forest Road 213. The fire was reported around noon and is
burning in rough, steep, rocky terrain in West Chevelon Canyon. No structures
are threatened. Cause of the fire is under investigation. Jeff Tamietti is Type
3 Incident Commander assigned, also 1 Type 1 crew, 3 Type 2 crews, 2
helicopters, 4 engines, 2 dozers, 1 water tender, 6 overhead, 108 total

New Mexico OJO FELIZ (16,600 acres; 100%
contained) is 13 miles NE of Mora. Bob Lineback's New Mexico Type 2 Incident
Management Team has transferred command to Incident Commander Type 3 Louie
Casaus, along with 2 Type crews, 1 Type 2 crew, 1 helicopter, 1 engine, 18
overhead, 82 total personnel. 04-17-06 : Arizona No large fires
reported. 04-17-06 : New Mexico OJO
FELIZ (16,600 acres; 80% contained) is 13 miles NE of Mora in New Mexico
State Forestry's Las Vegas District. Human-caused, the fire started Wednesday,
spreading quickly and leading to evacuation of the communities of Ojo Feliz,
Los Hueros, Hidden Lake, and numerous ranches in the area. The evacuation order
has since been lifted for all communities in the area, including Los Hueros.
State Highway 442 has been reopened. Three structures have been lost. Crews
will continue to work on the fire's north edge and in Los Hueros Canyon. Bob
Lineback's New Mexico Type 2 Incident Management Team is assigned to the
incident, along with 8 Type 1 crews, 7 Type 2 crews, 5 helicopters, 27 engines,
4 dozers, 10 water tenders, 111 overhead, 2 camp crews, 499 total
personnel. LUMBRE (8,000 acres) is burning in
Guadalupe and DeBaca Counties in NM State Forestry's Las Vegas District. Cause
of the fire, which started Saturday morning, is under investigation. The
community of Yeso was evacuated Saturday. No update available since
4/15. 04-14-06 : Arizona NORTH 105th
AVENUE (280 acres, 90% contained) is burning on the NW corner of Gila
River Indian Reservation in Maricopa County. The fire is human-caused and
started Sunday. No structures are threatened. Crews continue mopping up the
fire area within the fireline and will improve fireline on the fire's east
edge. Harold Watson is Type 3 Incident Commander assigned, along with 1 Type 1
crew, 1 Type 2 crew, 3 engines, 5 overhead, 52 total personnel. The Bureau of
Indian Affairs' Pima Agency is managing fire suppression
efforts. 04-14-06 : New Mexico OJO FELIZ
(12,500 acres, 0% contained) is burning in Mora County about 26 miles SW of
Taos in New Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District. Human-caused, the fire
started Wednesday, spreading quickly and leading to evacuation of the
communities of Ojo Feliz, Los Hueros, Hidden Lake, and numerous ranches in the
area. An emergency shelter has been set up at Mora High School Gymnasium.
Highway 442 is closed between la Cueva and Ocate. Bob Lineback's New Mexico
Type 2 Incident Management Team has replaced Type 3 Incident Commander Jaymes
Smith's organization. Resources assigned: 4 Type 1 crews, 4 Type 2 crews, 16
engines, 4 dozers, 50 overhead, 275 total personnel. 04-13-06 : Arizona
NORTH 105th AVENUE (200 acres, 85% contained)
is burning on the NW corner of Gila River Indian Reservation in Maricopa
County. The fire is human-caused and still active on its north and east
perimeters. No structures are threatened. Harold Watson is Type 3 Incident
Commander assigned, along with 1 Type 1 crew, 2 engines, 3 overhead, 28 total
personnel. The Bureau of Indian Affairs' Pima Agency is managing fire
suppression efforts. 04-13-06 : New Mexico OJO
FELIZ (reported anywhere up to 10,000 acres) is burning in Mora County
in New Mexico State Forestry's Las Vegas District. Human-caused, the fire
started Wednesday, spreading quickly and leading to evacuation of the
communities of Ojo Feliz, Los Huertos, Hidden Lake, and numerous ranches in the
area. An emergency shelter has been set up at Mora High School Gymnasium.
Highway 442 is closed between la Cueva and Ocate. Bob Lineback's Type 2
Incident Management Team has been ordered to replace Type 3 Incident Commander
Jaymes Smith. Some 125 firefighters are fighting the fire. 04-10-06 :

Mexico RED LAKE (400 acres, 0% contained) is
burning on the Mescalero Apache Reservation east of Pajarita Mountain in Otero
and Lincoln Counties. The fire was reported Wednesday afternoon and its cause
is under investigation. The fire is burning heavy grasses but no structures are
threatened and the fire is expected to be contained today. RED LAKE has burned
abouat 50 acres of tribal land and 350 acres of private land. Crews will
continue to build fire line and mop up as needed. Type 3 Incident Commander

New Mexico McDONALD (92,390 acres) is burning
5 miles south of Tatum and 2 miles north of McDonald. The fire is 100%
contained. Lovington Fire Department responded to the blaze, which started
Sunday noon and is human-caused. The fire started at NM Highway 457 and, in
less than 2 hours, moved over 15 miles NE toward McDonald and Tatum. The fire
jumped NM Highway 406 and contnued NE. Numerous pieces of farm equipment were
destroyed. Resources assigned include 4 engines and 1 water tender, 10 total
personnel. They continue patrolling the area and mopping up. WINDY (6,343 acres) is burning in Rita Blanca National
Grasslands, which lies in northeastern New Mexico and is administered by Cibola
National Forest. The fire is 100% contained. The fire started Monday noon and
its cause is under investigation. A garage and a barn were destroyed. Rick
Lucero is Type 3 Incident Commander assigned, along with 7 engines, 2 dozers,
17 total personnel. Crews continue patrolling the fireline and mopping
up. NEWBY (401 acres), which is also now 100%
contained. Rick Lucero is assigned to NEWBY as well, along with 12 engines and

total personnel. 03-02-06 : Arizona MONTEZUMA 1 (450 acres) is burning near Campini Mesa in

reflects that portion of the fire burning on the U. S. side only. An additional
3,962 acres is burning just south of the U. S.-Mexico border in the state of

near Campini Mesa in Coronado National Forest. The fire is 100% contained and
crews will continue mopping up and patrolling the fire line for spot fires.
MONTEZUMA 1 acreage reflects that portion of the fire burning on the U. S. side
only. An additional 3,512 acres is burning just south of the U. S.-Mexico
border in the state of Sonora. Dennis Haygood served as Type 3 Incident
Commander assigned to the fire, also 2 Type 2 crews, 5 engines, 1 water tender,
68 total personnel. 03-01-06 : New Mexico CASA (10,000+ acres) is burning 3 miles SW of Cimarron
in northeastern New Mexico and 10% contained. The fire was human-caused and
started very early Wednesday morning. It spread quickly, leading to the
evacuation of the village of Miami and Cimarron's Mountain Meadows Subdivision.
State Road 21 is closed. Crews plan to continue building containment lines with
engines, dozers, road graders, and helitankers. Louie Casaus is Type 3 Incident

of Payson in Tonto National Forest. Crews continue mopping up and
rehabilitating fireline built by dozers. 02-18-06 : New Mexico
WALKER (2,000 acres; 100% contained) is 13 miles
south of Tucumcari on Highway 209. The fire started Thursday afternoon and is
human-cuaased. Larry Ridgon is incident commander assigned, along with 62
personnel and 25 engines from Tucumcari Fire Department and the following
volunteer fire departments--Conservancy 1, 2, and 3; Quay County Distsrict;
Conchas; Forrest; Jordan; Logan; and Bard-Endee. The fire departments will
continue mopping up hot spots. SHEEP (1,200
acres, 100% contained) is 7 miles SW of Vaughn off Highway 285. The
human-caused fire started Thursday afternoon. Levi Chavez is incident commander
assigned, along with 36 total personnel and 14 engines from Encino, Duran,
Vaughn, Roswell, Valley, and Borendo Volunteer Fire Departments, along with
BLM-Roswell District, and NM State Forestry's Las Vegas

(4,243 acres, 95% contained) is 12 miles north of Payson in Tonto National
Forest. Crews are patrolling and holding the fireline following burnout
operations and beginning rehabilitation of fireline built by

(350 acres, 85% contained) is located on Isleta Pueblo about 17 miles south of
Albuquerque. Crews are mopping up the fire's south end, patrolling for spot
fires if the winds pick up. 02-15-06 : Arizona FEBRUARY (4,243 acres, 95% contained) is 12 miles north
of Payson in Tonto National Forest. Crews are patrolling and holding the
fireline following burnout operations and beginning rehabilitation of fireline

Mexico No new large fires. 02-08-06 : Tonto wildfire burns 1,200
acres Tonto National Forest spokesman said the February fire has moved to within two miles of Camp
Geronimo, which is a Boy Scout camp outside Pine. The spokesman said as a
precaution, crews are working to protect buildings at the camp. The fire is
burning piñon & juniper in the Tonto National
Forest.
02-07-06 : Fire burns north of Payson One of the earliest
wildfires in recent history has charred more than 200 acres along the Mogollon
Rim. Wind, fuel could spread fire. The February
Fire, named for the month, burned in a pinyon-juniper forest above and
below the Rim, about 12 miles north of Payson. "We are aggressively
attacking this fire to limit its spread in the area," said Tonto Fire
Management Officer Jeff Borucki. "This is the first serious fire on the Tonto
this year, and we want to make sure it doesn't grow into a larger
problem." The blaze ignited late Monday at an abandoned campfire along the
Mogollon Rim Road. It spread to about 80 acres overnight. It gained an

(red flags)... During a red flag alert... Do not build
campfires. Do not smoke outside your vehicle or buildings. Clear all
brush and debris from around your home. Set up barbeque grills away from
home, trees, tall grass. Do not burn trash or weeds. Do not cut
wood. Do not stack firewood under decks or close to buildings.
