"TREES FOR THE RIM" REFORESTATION PROJECT LAUNCHES Arizona Community Tree Council Overseeing Funding Campaign and Replanting Projects (Phoenix, AZ)-As the Rodeo-Chediski Fire is under containment, planning is already underway by the Arizona Community Tree Council, Inc. to secure resources for replanting trees on residential, commercial and community lands. Since its inception some 12 years ago, The Arizona Community Tree Council, Inc., has been involved with planting and caring for 2 million trees in Arizona communities. The organization recently completed a massive planting project in the Yuma West Wetlands area. Members in the non-profit group include arborists, landscapers, nursery operators, and growers.
Safeway Stores launched "Trees For The Rim" with a $50,000 donation. In addition, the stores are donating $2.00 for every $200 in Safeway Club Card member purchases between July 10 and August 6, 2002, up to a total contribution of $200,000. Rojon Hasker, Safeway's Phoenix Division President, described her company's support for the effort by saying, "We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this project. 'Trees for the Rim' is an opportunity for Safeway to show its support for these communities by committing to this five-year program. We are proud to be involved in 'Trees for the Rim' and thank our customers and employees for their continued support as these communities start to rebuild."
Kino Digital of Tucson and Phoenix has designed a special website, www.treesfortherim.org, which accepts donations online through a secure web server. In addition, the firm is redesigning the Arizona Community Tree Council's web site. "Even before the opportunity to participate in this project was presented to us, our employees were considering how Kino could -- more-- "Trees For The Rim" - Add One assist in rebuilding," explains Executive Vice President Eric Brandt. "The damage in this unique expanse of Ponderosa pines is a mind-boggling and, indeed, has touched the public psyche worldwide. Our European clients continue to inquire about the fire damage."
SRP is contributing $25,000 to "Trees For The Rim" and will be providing additional support as the replanting work begins in Spring of 2003. "SRP is proud to be a part of the rebuilding of the Rim after this devastating fire," said SRP President Bill Schrader. "As part of the Arizona community, it's important to us to help restore this area to its original beauty." "Replanting of trees is essential to restoring lives," says Ron Romatzke, Community Forestry Advisor for the Council. "Far too often in areas divested by wildfire, trees are not replanted as quickly as they could be - or may never be replanted. Some private lands damaged by the Dude Fire, nearly 14 years ago remain barren reminders that occasionally Nature needs a little help. "There is tremendous interest in doing something that will really make a difference for those hurt by these horrific fires," continues Romatzke. "Members of our organization have the knowledge and resources to bring the correct species of trees into the area at the right time for planting, and to educate people on how to plant and care for trees. We are committing 100% of all donations to replanting of native trees and shrubs in the devastated communities. Replanting benefits all citizens in Arizona because we've all lost a treasured natural resource." The mission of the Arizona Community Tree Council, Inc. is to encourage and facilitate planting and care of trees in Arizona by developing, identifying, monitoring and distributing resources and to promote public awareness and education for the betterment of our environment. Contributions to this Non-Profit 502 (c) 3 Corporation are tax deductible.
