Fire 3,100 acres, burned in grass, oak woodland and mixed brush
vegetation in the Pinaleño mountains ("Grahams") four miles southwest of
Safford, Arizona, on the Coronado National Forest. Residents of the Gila Valley
saw a reduction in fire behavior the last couple of days, due to significant
wetting rain, a reduction in wind speeds, heavy cloud cover, higher humidities
and lower temperatures. The Frye Mesa Road and Swift Trail (AZ Highway 366) are
open to the public. All closures have been ifted. Recreation use on Mt. Graham
is open for Memorial Day weekend. However, since the mountain received 6-8
inches of snow, the road is closed at Shannon Campground, so that crews can
remove snow and fallen trees. Cause Human, Date of Origin 05/20/2008 at Frye

wet line. The "22" Wildland Fire Use fire is
currently burning in a fairly open ponderosa pine stand interspersed with
meadows. Roads and previously burned areas to the north, northeast and east
will limit potential for significant growth. The fire is moving gradually to
the southwest as local fire managers predicted. The "22" Fire will continue to

Beehive Fire which started early Wednesday
afternoon became part of the Alamo Fire Complex.
The fire is 8 miles north, North West of the Alamo Fire. It started near Murphy
Peak on the Nogales Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest. It is
approximately 5 miles east of Arivaca Lake in a very remote area of the forest.
The fire is in Santa Cruz county near the border with Pima County. There are no
immediate threats to residential areas. However, drifting smoke may impact
communities along the I-19 corridor between Tucson and Nogales, especially
Tumacacori and Tubac. Arivaca may also be affected by smoke. There is a threat
to an electronic site on Murphy's Peak. The Eastern AZ Incident Management
Team, commanded by Pruett Small, will continue to manage the Complex. The fire
had burned an estimated 300 acres by sunset on Wednesday. It is being fought
with air tankers and helicopters because of the remote location. Cause

gusty winds yesterday as they continued to strengthen control lines on the
Trigo Fire, bringing containment to 53%. Strong,
gusty winds prevented the use of air tankers, and only three bucket drops were
made by a heavy helicopter before air operations were suspended. Hand crews
began rehabilitation efforts on the west side, while crews on the eastern front
approached completion of mop up. The local chapter of the American Red Cross

Mid-April 2008 The amount of moisture that fell this past winter bodes well
for the "official" fire season in Arizona, which often gets HOT by summertime.
In fact, if you see smoke in the air these days, it might be from controlled
burns being conducted by fire managers from various public land agencies to
reduce fuels built up by all that nice precipitation in 2007. BUT - and that's
a BIG BUT - Spring winds frequently make for dangerous conditions; that
greenery can dry out and quickly turn into high quality fuel. The bottom line:
BE CAREFUL with fire year round. WHAT`S OPEN: Most EVERYTHING !
