International Lions Send Relief Help
Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)has approved a $10,000 emergency
relief grant for use by those affected by the Rodeo-Chediski fire. Individuals
may apply to local Lions Clubs in the northeastern towns where evacuation
centers have been set up. The LCIF grant covers such basic necessities
as food, water, clothing, blankets, medical supplies and kitchen supplies
in areas affected by natural disasters. Vouchers to individuals will be
available from Lions Clubs in Springerville, Payson, Pine Top, Show Low,
Holbrook and Overgaard for redemption at Wal-Mart or Safeway stores. Whether
or not they are staying at an evacuation center, evacuees may find grant
information at those central locations.
Past International Director Joe Preston of the Prescott area secured the
grant which is being administered by District Governor Bob Jones of the
Overgaard Ponderosa Lions Club. Members of the Heber-Overgaard club, as
well as the Lions Clubs of Show Low and Pinetop/Lakeside are among the
evacuees.
Lions Clubs International Foundation is the charitable arm of the International
Association of Lions Clubs, funded by individual and corporate donations
worldwide, as well as by Melvin Jones Fellows. These donors honor the
founder of Lions Clubs, Melvin Jones, who was born at Fort Thomas, Arizona.
For the past several years, more LCIF funds have poured into Arizona than
have been received from this state. Relief funds have helped those affected
by the Wenden floods and wind damage in Mesa.
