Junk E-Mail With the concern of all the junk e-mail referred to as Spam with the request to assisting our clients we have purchased new filters for checking the e-mail sent to you , by using SPAM COP Software as well as checking for Required Reverse DNS setting we now return most of the SPAM sent to our accounts and assist with Preventing SPAM that all e-mail servers are dealing with. This is now included with our virus checking as a free service to you. Updates to this service will be posted on this web site.
We started running new mail filters 5-29-03 and so far the reports have been very good. Also we are testing a weight system for all other mail , this weighing system is only tagging mail with the word SPAM in the subject line, if it works for you I will start returning mail that is tagged. We hope you enjoy our free e-mail service, we will never delete any mail that is Spam or may be Spam, it will be returned to sender if it fails the required tests, The sender will receive the reason for return and my e-mail address (except for the P0rn test). We also run free Virus checking on all email sent and received. ( This is the only test we run on outgoing mail, all other test are for mail being received )
Some Spam may still get to you, if spammers have your address then some junk mail may get to you, the test we run will stop most of the junk mail. As you distribute your email address you may get on Spam lists, our filters will help stop this too by returning mail from know Spam senders and this will help prevent your e-mail address as spreading, you will be taken off some Spam lists by doing this.
   
What You Can Do Not all of our e-mail accounts receive Spam.If your receiving Spam it is because someone out their has your e-mail address, I make sure your account information is kept confidential on our systems, on a server level we don't get spammed, I test and check reports regularly. If receiving Spam is still an issue we suggest you get a 2nd e-mail address, ( keep one for family and friends , use one for the web sites or registration forms that may distribute your address ). You may have additional free e-mail with us or you can get free unfiltered e-mail from www.hotmail.com or www.yahoo.com .

More Concerns about Spam Users hate spam Surveys show that most users dislike spam. A survey by www.chooseyourmail.com reports that over 97% of the respondents receive spam. Over 2/3rds of them would support laws making spamming a crime! The Gartner Group survey says that only 3% of users like spam. www.survey.net shows that 49.9% find it "excessively annoying" (another 28.9% find it just "annoying").
Legitimate companies do not spam Very few legitimate companies spam. Why? They KNOW that most spam are scams. They know that users know this, too. They don't want to participate in a media that is so disliked. Have you ever gotten spam from a company you had heard of before?
Spams are Scams Most spams are scams of some sort. Most of the rest are for controversial offerings (adult web sites and the like).
Users don't buy from spam The survey by www.chooseyourmail.com shows that over 95% of the respondents have never bought anything advertised in spam. Pro People WANT spam control The survey by www.chooseyourmail.com shows that only 22% of people feel that their ISP has done enough about spam.
Most spammers steal service from ISPs Almost every spammer steals service from ISPs or other businesses! Most spammers "hijack" the mail server of an unsuspecting company. The small percentage that do not either use the mail server of their ISP or send E-mail directly from their computer. Either way, the ISP TOS (Terms Of Service) almost always prohibits sending of unsolicited commercial E-mail.
Children shouldn't be subjected to pornography The Gardner Group survey shows that 30% of Internet accounts are accessed by children under 18. www.spamrecycle.com reports that 30.2% of spam involves solicitation of pornographic content and services.
   
 We have always protected our clients  The Rim Internet Services complies with the requirement of being a closed server. This means if your not an e-mail client of The Rim Internet our server will not send or forward mail from our system, as well as except mail to our system without a proper e-mail address. Unfortunately not all mail servers comply with this requirement and it seems most spam comes from open relay mail servers. Hackers will look for these non-compliant systems and send out spam on theses systems.
   
 The Addional Spam Test We Take MAPS RBL (Real-time Blackhole List) is a list of hosts that are friendly or neutral towards people abusing their systems to send spam. Most E-mail that gets caught by the RBL test is spam.
DUL MAPS DUL is a list of Dial-Up Lines. These are the phone lines that people connect to at common ISPs. E-mail clients are designed to send E-mail to a mail server (with a static IP address), which then sends the mail. However, many spammers now can't find mail servers to relay through, so they send the E-mails directly from their dial-up account. This test is quite effective.
RSS The RSS test uses the MAPS RSS database of spam-relaying mail servers. It only lists mail servers that have sent out spam, and have not fixed their mail servers to disallow relaying.
OSRELAY Osirisoft's relay database. This database contains open relays. It is likely similar to the old ORBS database, but smaller. It likely catches many legitimate E-mails.
OSDUL Osirisoft's dialup line database. It appears to be similar to the MAPS DUL database, and should catch a lot of spam while letting virtually all legitimate E-mail go through.
OSSRC Osirisoft's Confirmed Spam Source database. This is a list of mail servers that continuously send out spam. Similar to MAPS RSS.
OSSOFT Osirisoft's Spamware Software Developer database. It is assumed that this is a database of IP addresses of companies that write spam software. Most likely, legitimate E-mail would not be coming from these addresses, unless you are a customer of a spam-software producing company!
MAILFROM This test checks the SMTP envelope "Mail From:" address (which should be the sender of the E-mail) and makes sure that the domain name it is coming from is valid. This way, if mail is sent from "user@$$$success$$$.com", it will get caught (since "$$$success$$$.com" is not a valid domain).
BADHEADERS This test checks the E-mail for illegal headers that are common in spam, but not common in legitimate E-mail. This test can catch about 50% of all spam, with the only false positives being mail that comes from broken mail clients. This is a very good test to use.
SPAMHEADERS This test checks the E-mail for headers headers that are common in spam, but not common in legitimate E-mail. This test is very similar to the BADHEADERS test, except the problems this test looks for are not RFC violations, so there's a chance you could catch a small amount of legitimate
E-mail. ROUTING This test will analyze the route that an E-mail takes, and look for highly inefficient routing that is very common in spam. For example, an E-mail might get caught if it is sent from a dialup in the U.S. to another account in the U.S., but is routed through a server in China, but not if it goes from a mail server in China directly to a U.S. mail server. This may occasionally produce false positives, especially if a mailing list is hosted outside of the United States. This test will probably not work well if your mail server is located outside of the United States.
Porn Filters I have created a text files with p0rn language that is tested with all e-mail our servers receive , if any text included in this list is included in e-mail sent to wmonline.com or therim.com servers we will not deliver this mail. If our client requests we will adjust our filters.
