Introduction Most spammers steal service from ISPs Almost every spammer steals service from ISPs or other businesses! Most spammers "hijack" the mail server of an unsuspecting company. The small percentage that do not either use the mail server of their ISP or send E-mail directly from their computer. Either way, the ISP TOS (Terms Of Service) almost always prohibits sending of unsolicited commercial E-mail.

We have always protected our clients  The Rim Internet Services complies with the requirement of being a closed server. This means if your not an e-mail client of The Rim Internet our server will not send or forward mail from our system, as well as except mail to our system without a proper e-mail address. Unfortunately not all mail servers comply with this requirement and it seems most spam comes from open relay mail servers. Hackers will look for these non-compliant systems and send out spam on theses systems.
  Frequently Asked Questions
Spam & Spam Filters What is SPAM?
SPAM is basically junk e-mail.
Who sends SPAM?
SPAM is sent by people known as Spammers, who buy e-mail addresses from companies and attempt to sell you a product by sending you solicited e-mail.
What are Cookies?
Cookies are temporary internet files that are downloaded and stored on your computer for various reasons, such as to save passwords, personal information, information pertinent to the site itself, and to load the page faster because the necessary files are already on your computer.
How do they get my e-mail address?
Your e-mail address is given out in number of ways and each have various ways of protecting your privacy: by submitting your e-mail address to web pages that ask for it. Through the use of temporary internet files stored on your computer called cookies, that can be read and saved. How can I prevent SPAM?
You can prevent SPAM e-mail by not giving your e-mail address out to people you don’t know. You can invest in some SPAM protection. Use an active and updated Virus Scan such as Norton Antivirus or McAfee. Use an active and updated Spyware/adware protector program, such as Ad-Aware or Spybot. You can attempt to unsubscribe if you are already receiving them, but beware, depending upon the ethics of the company, they may in turn sell your e-mail address to another company, or simply ignore your request. You can also set up mail rules that filter your e-mail as it comes in or before it even reaches your computer, see instructions below to create the rules through Outlook Express or our own Web E-Mail server.
How do I set up mail rules for other e-mail programs/client
such as Netscape, Eudora, or Mozilla?

Depending on the program, we may need you to bring in the computer for us to take a look at, as Outlook Express is the primary e-mail client we support.
What is Spyware?
Spyware is a type of software that can do various things according to how they were created, but mostly they are used to collect data from your machine whenever you visit their site, such as contact information and where you have been.
What is Adware?
Adware is essentially the same thing as Spyware, with the exception that it normally just implements pop-up ads whenever you visit web sites.
